Susan Dempsey-Hughes

I spent my childhood on the beaches of Florida. In 1989 I finished high school and moved west to Colorado in search of adventure and education and have been here ever since. While in college, I spent my summers in Salida and Buena Vista as a river guide and kayak instructor. After graduating from college I traveled to Central America to lead adventure travel trips; where I met my husband Zack. When it came time to put down roots I decided on Salida and bought my first house. It wasn't a hard decision. Where else can you find a great community, incredible mountains and 100+ miles of Whitewater to play on? I have lived in many mountain towns around the state like Crested Butte, Breckenridge and Durango, but found Salida the absolute perfect spot and have called it home now for over 13 years. Watching my parent's remodel homes and invest in real estate while I was growing up, I have an innate passion for revamping houses and turning them into homes. My husband and I continue to expand on our own real estate portfolio, fixing up homes and turniing them into rentals. Recently we finished a huge remodel on our own home in Salida. While working as the Office Manager for one of the largest rafting companies in Colorado, I had the opportunity to tap into my sales skills, and as it turns out, I'm kind of a natural. My boss became so impressed with my salesmanship and customer service that he started sending me to expos to sell travel packages to large groups. Not only was I his top seller, I began to realize that it was something that I truly enjoyed. Coupling my love of real estate investment with my sales experience, it almost seemed that real estate was an obvious and inevitable career choice for me. When I can help people find the property that fits their needs and desires, it is incredibly rewarding. For the past 6 years I have been a full-time realtor in Salida. In Chaffee County I have consistently been a top selling agent. Today I balance recreation with being a full time realtor and mother to my daughters Isabel and Margaret.
